You may qualify for the DAYLight Study if you:
- Are 12 and 30 years old
- Are right-handed
- Are not diagnosed with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or a substance/alcohol use disorder within the last three months
- Are not colorblind
- Are not diagnosed with any serious medical conditions
What does the study involve?
The main study involves:
- Visit 1 (virtual, up to $30): Participant (or participant and parent, if under 18) will complete an eligibility evaluation over secure video conference, lasting up to 3 hours
- Home Sleep and Light Monitoring (at home, up to $60): One week of at-home sleep and light monitoring with a wrist monitor and a sleep diary.
- Visit 2 (in-person, up to $210): One in-person visit to our lab at UPMC for a brain scan (functional MRI), light sensitivity test, and surveys. The in-person visit lasts up to 7 hours.
An opt-in study involves:
- Bright Light for Sleep and Mood (at home, up to $40 plus bright light device): Participants can also opt-in to two weeks of morning bright light therapy with a wearable device to see if morning light improves sleep and mood.
Compensation provided: bright light device provided for optional light therapy study
